SALSA UNDER THE STARS 2013!

The Summer Music Festival kicks off Friday, May 31st with a warm night of hot salsa, from Arizona band, Jaleo. A multicultural combination of Afro Cuban, Puerto Rican and Colombian rhythms, Jaleo will keep you on the dance floor with their special blend of old world melodies mixed with youthful exuberance.
Founded in August 2007 and directed by Colombian duo Alvaro and Camilo Moreno, Jaleo is based in Phoenix, Arizona with local musicians from different backgrounds and nationalities. Jaleo has taken to the next level professionalism and performance of Latin bands in Arizona and other states, the quality and variety of sounds is based on Latin American culture. Jaleo performs melodies such as salsa, meringue, cumbia, and new songs from Latin top charts all this inspired by their Colombian roots. http://jaleolatinmusic.com/
En-Joy -- June 7
En-Joy just keeps getting better and better! Traditional Cuban Son and Modern Cuban Timba are the hallmarks of this great, young Salsa band.

Ivon Ulibarri & Café Mocha -- June 14

One of Albuquerque’s hottest Salsa bands, led by veteran performer Ivon Ulibarri, Café Mocha brews up an exciting blend of Son, Cha-Cha and other Latin Styles from the Caribbean and beyond.

Charanga del Valle offers up a fine evening of Salsa and all of its traditional rhythms. Featuring vocalist Annette Aragon, Charanga del Valle boasts musical instrumentation that includes horns, flute and violins for a full and hearty sound, perfect for dancing.

Cuban rhythms, tighter than a drum fill the air when Havana Son performs. Cumbiareggaeton and sounds reminiscent of Buena Vista Social Club and will have you on the dance floor all night long.

Veteran Salsa singer Ray De La Paz flies in from New York to bring East Coast Salsa to the desert. De La Paz is backed up by local heavy-hitters including Camilo Quinones and Paul Gonzales.  

Ray De La Paz has been singing for over 30 years and has traveled extensively around the world taking his music and talent wherever dancers ruled. He started singing at a young age and it was then that his mother convinced him to take vocal lessons. He sang chorus with many of the great vocalists of salsa and has sung in many commercials for well known companies in the advertising industry. Ray is fluent in both Spanish and English, and is equally adept singing in both languages. Among the many achievements he has reached, Ray has won an Ace award and two gold records performing with some of the best in salsa music, including the Ray Barreto Orchestra, Guarare, and Louie Ramirez. In addition, Ray received a platinum CD and a 2004 Grammy award for his work with the Spanish Harlem Orchestra where he plays an important part as one of the orchestra's lead vocalists.
Albuquerque Latin Jazz Orchestra—This band has an all-star line-up of salsa and jazz players from the Albuquerque music scene! With band members from Son Como Son, En-Joy, Charanga del Valle, and Calle 66 as well as some of the best jazz players around, this is a stellar group! Paul Gonzales and Brad Dubbs (trumpets), Cesar Bauvallet and Jim Firkins (trombones), Glenn Kostur and Lee Taylor (saxophones), Rodolfo Gonzalez (flute), Mariano Morales (piano), Yosmel Montejo (bass), Miguel Escuriola (timbales), Francisco Arroyo (congas), and Camilo Quinones (bongos).

Calle 66, is a native New Mexican Salsa band, formed in 2005. Featuring singer Jackie Zamora, offers a night a Salsa with contemporary flair and flavor.

Salsa Under the Stars at The Albuquerque Museum Amphitheater: 2000 Mountain Road NW, Old Town Albuquerque

All shows: 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.; Doors open at 6:30 p.m.


Admission (EXCEPT WHERE OTHERWISE NOTED) $14 Adults; $12 Seniors (60+), Students w/ID and New Mexico Jazz Workshop (NMJW) and Albuquerque Museum Members. Children 12 and under, Free.

Save by purchasing Summer Music Festival Passes - a Full Pass for 19 concerts ($250) or a Half Pass for 10 concerts ($130) may be purchased. These Pass tickets may be used singly for each concert or in multiples up to the number of concerts purchased. All passes for the NMJW Summer Music Festival expire on AUGUST 10th, and may not be used in subsequent years or for subsequent NMJW performances or events. Unused passes are not redeemable for cash. (PLEASE NOTE: ALL passes are limited to TWO PUNCHES per show.)


HOW DO I PURCHASE TICKETS???
There are several ways to purchase tickets to the Summer Music Festival:
  • Buy your tickets ONLINE at Eventbrite.  A small surcharge ($.99) is added to the price, or 10% per ticket, compared to 58% at Ticketmaster. You may purchase tickets ANYTIME. However, on FRIDAYS ticket sales for CURRENT EVENT end at 2pm. Ticket sales for SATURDAY ALSO END AT 2pm on FRIDAY, as the NMJW offices are CLOSED ON SATURDAYS. When you make a purchase using Eventbrite, your name is put on a Will Call list-- if you'r able, print your ticket-- it's just like having a ticket in hand! To buy online,  Click HEREAgain, all online sales for the current weekend's performance end at 2PM.

  • You may purchase tickets at the door on the day of the show starting at 6:30.

  • You may call us to order tickets over the phone at 505-255-9798, Monday through Thursday and on Fridays until 2pm. You may pick up your tickets at WILL CALL, at the Albuquerque Museum on the evening of the performance, ONLY.

  • You may visit our office (5500 Lomas NE, just  East of San Mateo)   MONDAY-THURSDAY, between the hours of 9 am -5pm and on FRIDAY from 9am-2pm. We are a small office with an equally small but dedicated and busy staff-- if you are planning to visit, please give a call: 505-255-9798 to ensure that someone is here to assist you!
